Carolina Panthers lose it in OT

I don’t spend a lot of time watching sports, but I happened to catch the Carolina Panthers game tonight.  They played the NY Giants, which means my wife and I were on the rare ‘same side’ while watching the game.  I grew up in North Carolina, so the Panthers were an obvious choice for me, but she likes ‘anyone playing the Giants’.  I enjoyed telling my son what the plays were, and how to read the downs from the stats on the screen.

I do wish I was more of a sports fan for the sake of my son.  He hardly knows football from basketball.  Anyway – the Panthers missed a field goal in the fourth that would have won the game – then just didn’t show up to the overtime.  The Giants force a punt, but almost lost possession when the receiver didn’t call for a fair catch and lost control of the ball.  The Giants all but walked the ball into the end zone after that play.  I have a hard time picking winners – maybe that’s why I never got into sports…

Giant Upset for New England

Not this year…Tonight could have been NFL history but instead was just another upset in the Super Bowl’s 42 year history. New England lost the championship in the last minutes of the game. I’m sure there will be many many blogs, news posts, and columnist that write about this game for the next few weeks – I’m not one of them. My wife was born in Boston and my In-Laws are all Patriot fans – ‘Upset’ doesn’t really describe the mood.

On another note, the commercials were not that impressive this year. Only a few of them were remotely funny and several of them were truly offensive with blatant sexual themes and some with gory content. In one commercial, a woman’s heart bursts out of her chest and rolls off her keyboard leaving a bloody trail. In another a man is sucked into a jet planes engine. I asked a friend of mine tonight – Am I becoming more sensitive, or are they really getting worse?

OSU blows it again!

OSUFor the second Year in a row, OSU blows the BCS Championship Bowl game to a Southeastern Conference team.

Forest Gump

After the loss in regular season to Illinois 28 to 21, they nearly didn’t make it to the championship game. But here we are, the big game was a big loss! Last year I had to take a beating from my wife (a long time Florida Gator fan) when the Gators beat the Buckeyes in the championship game – which was held here in Glendale less then 10 miles from my house.

This year the game was held in New Orleans but the loss still hits close to home. To quote Forest Gump – That’s all I have to say about that.”
