{"id":372,"date":"2008-06-25T08:08:36","date_gmt":"2008-06-25T15:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/?p=372"},"modified":"2025-06-15T06:07:31","modified_gmt":"2025-06-15T06:07:31","slug":"why-my-towels-are-on-the-floor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sackrider.org\/wordpress\/why-my-towels-are-on-the-floor\/","title":{"rendered":"Why my towels are on the floor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, I just got back from a business trip in Las Vegas.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a geek conference, not interesting to anybody that isn&#8217;t excited by terms like TCP, IPv6, SAN, NAS, and virtualization.\u00c2\u00a0 If you are thinking &#8220;huh?&#8221;, don&#8217;t worry that means you are normal.\u00c2\u00a0 Anyway &#8211; I noticed a few things about Vegas that I thought I would share:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Everyone wants to engage you on a &#8220;what casino are you staying in&#8221; conversation.\u00c2\u00a0 And whats more, the minute you tell them, there is a follow up conversation about where that hotel is in relationship to other well known hotels on the strip. &#8220;<em>Oh, you are at MGM?\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s right across the street from New York, New York.<\/em>&#8220;\u00c2\u00a0 &#8212; &#8220;<em>You are at Mandalay Bay?\u00c2\u00a0 I stayed there last year, but I like the Lexor much better<\/em>&#8221; &#8212; By the way, I stayed at the Lexor, since I&#8217;m sure you care &#8211; I&#8217;m guessing you are already typing an email to tell me what hotel and what site like\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slotsformoney.com\">Slotsformoney.com<\/a> that you used while you have stayed here and where it is on the strip&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>Everyone has a joke derived from the Vegas trademark line &#8220;What happens in Vegas&#8230;&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 Here are a few I&#8217;ve heard for this trip:\n<ol>\n<li><em>What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, unless its really good &#8211; then it ends up on youtube.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas &#8211; so does your money<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>STDs don&#8217;t stay in Vegas<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>There really aren&#8217;t any cheap buffets in Vegas.\u00c2\u00a0 The buffet in the hotel was $20 for dinner.\u00c2\u00a0 Just to give you an idea of the prices on the strip &#8211; The cheapest placed to buy a soda in Vegas was the movie theaters!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/p_00554.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-388\" style=\"float: left; margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" title=\"Lexor\" src=\"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/p_00554-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>So what does that have to do with towels?\u00c2\u00a0 Nothing &#8211; keep reading&#8230; Those aren&#8217;t the only things I noticed about the strip that I care to share.\u00c2\u00a0 When I got out of the airport I took a shuttle to the hotel where I stood in line to check in.\u00c2\u00a0 There are a large fountain there behind me where people were throwing the pennies they had left after gambling.\u00c2\u00a0 I get my key and start the walk to the room.\u00c2\u00a0 I walked past a water fountain in the hall way, notice another one in the food court, I see one in front of the reastraunt as well.\u00c2\u00a0 After dropping off my bags, in an effort to get my barrings I walk from my room to the conference in Mandalay Bay where I pass no less than ten water fountains &#8211; some with lights, some where the water just runs down the wall to a pool below.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/p_00540.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright alignnone size-medium wp-image-384\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" title=\"In a hallway...\" src=\"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/p_00540-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Water was spraying, falling, spitting from every corner of the two casino hotels and the mall like corador that connected them.<\/p>\n<p>So I get back to my room, unpack my bags and jump in a shower.\u00c2\u00a0 When I get out &#8211; I see this sign:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: center;\">Dear Guest,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Southern Nevada and the West are experiencing<br \/>\nextreme drought conditions.<br \/>\nPlease help us conserve water by re-using towels<br \/>\nwhen possible.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>Hang the towels on the rack to re-use them<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: center;\">Place the towels on the floor to receive<br \/>\nfresh towels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Huh???\u00c2\u00a0 Hey guys, I know where all the water is &#8212;
