{"id":117,"date":"2006-12-18T00:45:36","date_gmt":"2006-12-18T07:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/myblog\/category\/mythoughts\/ivf-in-vitro-fertilization-part-i"},"modified":"2025-06-15T06:07:44","modified_gmt":"2025-06-15T06:07:44","slug":"ivf-in-vitro-fertilization-part-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sackrider.org\/wordpress\/ivf-in-vitro-fertilization-part-i\/","title":{"rendered":"IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) Part I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By:\u00c2\u00a0 Stephanie Sackrider<\/p>\n<p>(FYI this is my first post\u00c2\u00a0for the Sackrider.org Blog.\u00c2\u00a0 My husband&#8217;s very proud)<\/p>\n<p>Most of our closest friends and family know we have been going thru IVF.\u00c2\u00a0 I felt that I needed to share some of my thoughts and the experiences we are gaining.\u00c2\u00a0 There is so much to the treatment and process, I&#8217;m not even sure where to begin.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>IVF is\u00c2\u00a0a method of assisted reproduction that involves surgically removing an egg from the ovary (by ultrasound-guided retrieval) after ovulation induction, combining it with sperm in a petri dish and, after fertilization, replacing the resulting embryo(s) in the woman&#8217;s uterus. (<a href=\"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/url?sa=X&#038;start=2&#038;oi=define&#038;q=http:\/\/www.ivf.org\/glossary.html&#038;usg=__-w__l9EMeix17u1GHQU0vI612R8=\"><font color=\"#008000\">www.ivf.org\/glossary.html<\/font><\/a>)\u00c2\u00a0 Does this sound complicated?\u00c2\u00a0 Because boy does the actual events complicate and take over your whole life while going thru it.<\/p>\n<p>Now don&#8217;t get me wrong.\u00c2\u00a0 Dale and I want lots of children.\u00c2\u00a0 We have since the first time we talked about having a family.\u00c2\u00a0 We would do almost anything to fulfill this dream.\u00c2\u00a0 But when some one that is actually qualified, tells you that anytime you want to have children you have to do\u00c2\u00a0so in a dish, it takes a new turn of reality.\u00c2\u00a0 Ok.\u00c2\u00a0 She didn&#8217;t say it that way but close.<\/p>\n<p>There are months worth of preparations before the cycle date begins.\u00c2\u00a0 Bloodwork, numerous tests, financial planning, and nurse teachings are just a few of things to have to be completed to start your IVF treatment.\u00c2\u00a0 They run bloodwork to check out hormone levels and electrolytes.\u00c2\u00a0 Some tests included are\u00c2\u00a0an HSG and SHG which both help doctors to find blockages or abnormalities.\u00c2\u00a0 You also meet with a planner who goes over the cost.\u00c2\u00a0 And IVF is not cheap.\u00c2\u00a0 If it were not for Dale&#8217;s great insurance there is no way we could have completed the financial obligations that it requires.\u00c2\u00a0 Even with our great insurance, $35 copays when you go to the doctors&#8217; office every day adds up.\u00c2\u00a0 Then you have teaching visits to go over how to give your self or your partner gives you the injections.\u00c2\u00a0 Also you have teaching visits that goes over all your medications, because when your balancing 20 different meds that you take some by pill, some by injections, some gels, some patches, and all at different times and intervals, it gets a little confusing.\u00c2\u00a0 While doing all this, not forgetting to contact the insurance company for approvals and balancing an already full plated\u00c2\u00a0lifestyle is part of the juggling required.<\/p>\n<p>1 in every 6 couples is infertile.\u00c2\u00a0 Less the 1\/4 of all infertile couple will achieve live births of a baby.\u00c2\u00a0 For 10% of all infertile couples, the cause will never be discovered.\u00c2\u00a0 These are tough statistic read let alone live.\u00c2\u00a0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonarms.com\/\">www.arizonarms.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>During my prep months, I was diagnose with PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome.\u00c2\u00a0 PCOS is a genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that prevents ovulation.\u00c2\u00a0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/sackrider.org\/url?sa=X&#038;start=3&#038;oi=define&#038;q=http:\/\/www.sbivf.com\/glossary.htm&#038;usg=__9bRf3u5mOXZYcoo2i_9TmPO-UjI=\"><font color=\"#008000\">www.sbivf.com\/glossary.htm<\/font><\/a>)\u00c2\u00a0 This disease is a very common cause of fertility problems.\u00c2\u00a0 I had it when I conceived Zander but not to the degree that I do now.\u00c2\u00a0 Then it only affected one ovary and that is why I ovulated every other month.\u00c2\u00a0 After the diagnosis, is when I was informed of my future abnormal\u00c2\u00a0baby making adventures.<\/p>\n<p>In the past I&#8217;ve struggled with the challenges of being abnormal when it comes to trying to conceive.\u00c2\u00a0 This blow took new tolls.\u00c2\u00a0 Why?\u00c2\u00a0 Why?\u00c2\u00a0 Why?\u00c2\u00a0was my number one question.\u00c2\u00a0 All my friends and family have their pictures as the definition of fertile myrtle.\u00c2\u00a0 Why did I draw this unlucky card?\u00c2\u00a0 Why did the Christian girl that saved herself for marriage find this plague of infertility?\u00c2\u00a0 And my biggest question was, why God wouldn&#8217;t remember me as he did Rachel, listen to me and open my womb.\u00c2\u00a0 (Gen 30:22 NIV)<\/p>\n<p>For over 2 months (October to the beginning of December), I worked on all the preparations to begin the IVF treatments.\u00c2\u00a0 I started rearranging current responsibilities<span style=\"font-size: 11pt;
