So, as you know by know, I’m working to lose weight. I’ve already seen a lot of difference in my clothes and the way that I feel. But for the first month of bike riding I didn’t lose any weight! Everyone says, “You are most likely gaining muscle”, but gaining a pound of muscle takes a lot of work. I would have expected to lose 10 or 15 pounds with all the cycling I was doing. I know I didn’t gain 15 pounds of muscle. So, what happened? Church Sunday…
Billie Hunt (http://www.billiehunt.org/) taught at our church Sunday morning and night. Her teaching was about not giving up on your dreams. She used Joseph as an illustration. The whole thing got me thinking, so I would say she did her job well. (more…)

My Bus Ride Home…
I wanted to get home early today so Stephanie could go to a church function. I left work in hopes of catching an earlier bus than usual, but when I got to the stop, the bus wasn’t there. Valley Metro lost it. Yes, its missing. When I called, they told me that it was not on the GPS screens and they could not reach the bus driver over the radio. The 4:30 bus is just ‘off the map’. So I start cycling home, and I should have kept going… (more…)

Ok — its starting to get HOT!
Normally on Wednesday’s I have to take the bus to Arrowhead mall, then ride my bike to the church so that I can be there in time to watch Zander for Stephanie, right?  Today I leave work at 4:30 thinking, I’ll catch the 4:30 bus and be able to go home first so I don’t have to fight with the bike rack after church… then I got this bright idea – it’s only 4:30 – and it only takes me about 1 1/2 hours to get home when I ride my bike all the way. Hmmm… that puts me at the house around 6pm. I leave the bus stop and head home despite the fact that my left knee was starting to hurt and it fells a little hot. 500 MILES!
I would [ride] 500 miles, and I would [ride] 500 more… dadadada
OK — I’m not the Proclaimers singing “When I wake up” but I DID RIDE 500 MILES! My bike had about 150 miles on it when I got here to Phoenix, AZ.  Today, my bike rolled over 500 miles! (more…)

Moving Sackrider Slimdown to Mondays!
At the request of Dianne, we are moving the offical weigh in to Mondays. So I weighed in yesterday at 299.5 lbs. That’s a two pound weight loss since last Wednesday! I still have twelve Monday’s between now and the 10 year class reunion, so I’m counting this last Monday as the new kick off date. Dropping the ball…
I missed the mark… I didn’t invite anyone from work to our church sponsored barbeque and I didn’t invite my neighbors. I really fell short. I have excusses, but why bother? I missed it, plain and simple. What do I need to do to change? It’s too simplistic to say, “I can’t change myself, I have to rely on God” but too overwelming to say “I’ll pull myself up by my bootstraps, and fix this thing“. It has to be somewhere in the middle.

It’s Barbeque Time!
This Sunday night starting at 6:00 pm, we are hosting one of the church’s Summer Backyard Barbeque! Yes, you are invited. I’m also inviting my neighbors on all sides. I want to really begin to reach out to others and show the love of Christ. I just realized that I didn’t invite anyone from work, and that makes me sad. I think I’m going to call a couple of them tomorrow and invite them even though its a little late now. Maybe they will come.
Stephanie and I have a lot of work to do. We live like slobs (I know, we should start working on that, but one thing at a time -see My Weightloss-, OK?). The house needs to be cleaned up, the weeds in both yards need to be pulled, the patio needs to be cleaned up, the pool needs to be cleaned out, etc., etc., etc… Anyway, I’m hoping we can get it done quickly because I want to spend part of the day enjoying the day.

The Ride Goes On…
I started the offical ‘Sackrider Slimdown’ on Wednesday and one of my goals was to put 100 miles on my bike by next Wednesday. Well, I did not think that all the way through. 🙂 (more…)

The Sackrider Slimdown Begins!
OK, yesterday was the first offical day of The Sackrider Slimdown! Dad, Dianne, and Stephanie are joining me, although, I’m certian I’m the only one brave enough to post my weight right here online. I will weight in every Wednesday moring, and post my weight, as well as my eating habits and my exercise routines. Maybe this psudo-accountability will help me to bring off the pounds.
Now because I want the thousands of readers out there (harharhar) to quickly see my weekly results, I’m going to create a new page and link it up top. That way, it won’t get lost in my other posts about life, ministry, and family. Feel free to comment on any of my posts – any words of encouragement are welcomed!
