I have 12 weeks until my 10 year class reunion. I weight somewhere around 300 lbs today (offical weight will be posted when the plan begins). I want to lose 100lbs, BUT not in 12 weeks. If I lose two to three pounds a week for 12 weeks, I should be 24 to 36 pounds lighter, or somewhere between 276 and 264lbs. Celebrating Our Independence…
Fourth of July is here again, and we take a day to celebrate our nation’s birth. As I consider our Nation’s ‘Independence’, I find myself focused on our individual struggles for independence. My pastor ministered this Sunday about community in our churches, and about reconnecting. But in America, we don’t want to reconnect; we want to be self-sufficient. We do not want to ‘need’ anyone. When we are young, we want to be older so we can do things for ourselves, and when we grow old, we do not want to be a ‘burden’ on anyone. We want to be independent. It has been said that no man is an island, but if we could find a way, we would change that in America… (more…)

The Quaterly Family Reunion
Saturday was the quaterly family reunion. We had about 25 people at our home and we had a lot of fun. We played two rounds of Shanghi before the game fell completely apart but continued to enjoy fellowship and fun, while the younger kids played in the pool. (more…)

Reading the Bible…
Well, for those of you who don’t know, I’m a member of a free online Bible reading club found at http://godfidence.org/bible. We read seven chapters a day and I wanted to invite you to join us. If you are like me, you said at the beginning of year that you wanted to read your Bible more, but somewhere around February you stopped, right? Here is your chance to jump back on board! So, here’s the thing…
I want to stop drinking soda pop, and stop eating sugary foods, BUT… This weekend we are having a lot of family over (you’re invited) and I know there is going to be a lot of soda and a lot of sugary foods. Its like starting a diet two days before Thanksgiving, there is no way you are going to stick to your diet. Or even worst, you stick to the diet, don’t eat the pumpkin pie, the corn bread, the canberry sauce, and still don’t loose any weight and end up cheating two weeks later anyway.
It would help if I got water when I go out to eat for lunch with the team, but I usually hate the tap water restraunts give you and end up asking for a diet pop anyway. That’s going to be hard. That along with trying to eat out healthy to begin with. I do not want to start packing my lunch everyday – it turns me into “that guy”. You know, the guy that doesn’t work well with the team, never socializes and never goes out to eat with the team. I won’t be that guy.
At this point I’m just rambling. I will go on an all water week (just for fluids, I’m not fasting here) starting Monday. I know, I know, I may have trouble on the 4th of July (which is Tuesday). If so, I will reset my week to Wednesday, but I will do one continuios seven day period of just water for fluid. After that, we will re-evaluate. I’ll keep you posted.

Who are you to judge… yourself?
Romans 9
20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’ ” 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?
ÂSatan is the accuser of the brethren (Rev 12:10). When we speak against our fellow Christians, we become evangelists for Satan. This concept is easily understood by the Church when applied as a deterrent for gossip or other externally directed accusations. Interestingly, we seldom if ever consider the implications when we are accusing ourselves. Most likely, I suppose, this is due to the fact that we know already or at least we seem to think we know, whether or not our accusations have merit, and therefore become not only our accuser and also our own judge.

My Bicycle Wish List
Â
Well, now that I’m riding my bike four or five times a week, I have found that there are several things I want for my bike:Â (more…)

38 Miles!
That’s right — I rode my bike all the way to work this morning and all the way home this afternoon. Thrity-eight miles in all. I got home in an hour and twenty-four minutes. It takes an hour and twenty minutes to take the bus, so I was making great time. My goal is to get home in an hour, but that might be a ways off. I’ve already shaved twenty minutes off my original trip home.
Anyway, I’m proud of myself, as you can tell. I never thought I would be able to ride for 19 miles at a time. I know there are a lot of cyclists out there that would think, 19 miles, what’s the big deal? Well, I wonder how many of those guys weight 300lbs? I’m hoping if I keep this up, I won’t either…

The 20, The 10, The 5, He could go all the way….
And I did! I rode my bike all the way into work this morning. My legs feel like rubber, but I don’t stink – I took a shower in the mens locker room here on site at my job. If I ride all the way home as well, today will be the biggest riding day for me so far. I never thought I would be able to ride the whole way to work, but I did it.
To be honest, the whole process has opened my eyes about taking action. Three weeks ago, I was thinking, “maybe I could ride my bike part of the way to work.” I told my family and friends about it with mixed responses. Everyone was supportive, but I also got several comments like, “well, it’s going to get pretty hot out there!” and “that’s a long way, what are you going to do when you get too tired or hot?”.
What I learned was that if you want something, you have to take it. I wanted to ride my bike to/from work. I could have thought about it for weeks, talked about it for months, and never done it. But I made it happen! I just did it. When I wanted to move from Columbus, Ohio, I waited years, but then finally, I did it. I just did it. Like Nike’s motto, Just Do It!
Now I need to take the same attidute about my eating habits — I want to cut out sugar drinks (including diet). I want to stop eating sugary foods like candy, sweet breads, and deserts. Well, I have to stop thinking about, stop talking about it, and Just Do It!

Once a fluke, Twice is luck, But the Third Time was just plain hard work!
I did it for a third time — rode my bike all the way home from work (19 miles). This time I took Union Hills instead of going down to Greenway. I’m disappointed that I haven’t yet lost any weight, and my bloodsugar was 166 yesterday AFTER riding home. That’s exremely high even after eating a good sized meal, but after exercise? I should have been at 90 or even lower. All day yesterday I had a high bloodsugar headache. I’m guessing that I had to have been well over 200 for most of the day. So, I’m going to start taking my bloodsugar meter with me to work again.
I need to start watching my food intake. I’m guessing that’s why I had higher bloodsugar – my diet lately hasn’t been very regulated. Well, that has to change. I haven’t lost any weight despite the fact that I have put over 150 miles on my bike in two weeks! I will not give up, I believe its only a matter of time before I begin to see results.
